Roblox trading scams, and how to trade safely

Trading is half the fun of games like Murder Mystery 2 and Adopt Me, and one of the easiest ways to lose an item. Most trade scams come down to the same six tricks. Once you know them, they are easy to spot.

Two kinds of trading

Roblox has its own Trade feature for limited items. Trades made there are final: Roblox says it won’t reverse or refund a completed trade, for any reason. Most trading happens inside games instead, in the trade windows of experiences like MM2, Adopt Me or Grow a Garden. Those trades are run by the game, and Roblox can’t enforce deals made outside its own features.

Either way, once an item has changed hands, nobody is coming to undo it. That is why the only real protection is not falling for the trick in the first place.

The six tricks behind most trade scams

  1. The trust trade

“Give me your item first and I’ll send mine right after.” They log off, block you or hop servers. Any deal where one side has to go first is the scam.

  2. The last-second swap

The other player puts in the item you want, waits until you are about to accept, then swaps it for something worthless or a lookalike. Many games show a short countdown for exactly this reason.

  3. The fake middleman

A “trusted middleman” offers to hold both items so nobody has to go first. The middleman is the scammer’s second account, or a friend. Your item goes in and never comes out.

  4. “I’ll pay you Robux later”

An item now in exchange for Robux through a group payout, a gamepass purchase or “my friend’s account” later. Roblox can’t enforce deals made outside its own features, so later never comes.

  5. Fake value sites and trade links

A link to a “value checker”, trading site or Discord server that asks you to sign in with Roblox. It is a fake login page, and the goal is your whole account, not one item.

  6. “Give one, get two back”

Giveaways and “double your pets” offers where you hand over an item to enter. Nobody gives away more than they take. Your item is the prize.

How to trade safely

  1. Never go first

Use the game’s own trade window, where both sides lock in their items and accept together. If someone wants you to drop or gift first, walk away.

  2. Read the final screen

Before you accept, check every item and amount again, slowly. A countdown is there for a reason: use it.

  3. Check values in more than one place

Item values move fast. Compare a couple of sources before you accept an offer that looks too good, or too urgent.

  4. Keep the deal in the game

Don’t move to DMs, Discord or a website to “finish” a trade or to pay. Outside the game nobody can step in.

If you trade limiteds with Roblox’s own Trade feature, turn on the Trade Quality Filter in your account settings. It hides offers that are badly one-sided, so the worst lowball and scam offers never reach you.

If you got scammed

Report the player with Report Abuse, and in the game’s own report system if it has one. If you clicked a link and signed in anywhere, treat your account as compromised: change your password and log out of all other sessions, as our account security guide explains. Be wary of anyone who then offers to “recover” your items for a fee: that is the same scam, round two.

Frequently asked questions

Can Roblox give back items I lost in a trade scam?

Usually not. Roblox says trades made with its official Trade feature are final and won’t be reversed, and it can’t enforce or recover items from deals made outside its official features. In-game trades in experiences like MM2 or Adopt Me are run by the game, so Roblox Support can’t return those items either.

Is using a middleman safe?

Only if the game itself provides one, such as a trade window where both players lock in. A player who offers to “hold” items is a common scam, because you can’t see who controls that account.

What is the Trade Quality Filter?

A Roblox setting for official trades that hides offers that are badly one-sided. Roblox recommends turning it on in your account settings if you trade limiteds.

How do I report a scammer?

Use Report Abuse on the player in Roblox, and the game’s own report button or Discord if it has one. Reports don’t bring items back, but they help get the account removed.

Someone sent me a trading link and I signed in. What now?

Change your Roblox password straight away, then log out of all other sessions in your security settings and check that your email and 2-Step Verification are still yours. Our account security guide walks through it.

Can I trade Robux for items safely?

Not between players. There is no official way to send Robux to another player for an in-game item, so every “Robux for pets” deal relies on trust. That is exactly what scammers count on.
